Start a Group

Start a Precept Bible Study group today to help others know God through His Word and live differently!

Pray

Ask God:
• If you are ready to lead a study and if so, to give you the confidence to start a study.
• Which Precept study He wants you to lead.
• To send the students He wants to participate.

Select your studies

Choose an appropriate course for your group. Consider your audience: What are their needs, time constraints, and previous Bible study experience? We have several study formats to meet your group’s needs.

Training: Intensive studies (Precept Upon Precept) require leader training. There is also leader training available for other Precept Bible study series, but training is not required to lead. You can also take training workshops to develop your study and leadership skills — We should all be continually growing and learning!

Promote your group

Start local and work out from there — Is there someone in your church or community that would like to be a part of your group? Is there a group of friends that you could approach about studying God’s Word together? Can you put it in your church newsletter? Create an event and post to social media.
You can also let others know about your group by posting it on the Precept Local Groups through the Precept Ministries website.
If you want some advice, feel free to contact us or join our Facebook Group to speak with other leaders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to attend leadership training before I can lead a small group?

Yes and No.

If you feel that God wants you to lead a Precept Upon Precept Bible study group, the answer is “Yes”. You will need to attend How to Lead Precept Upon Precept Workshop either in person or online.

If you are being led by God to teach any other of the inductive Bible study series that Precept publishes the answer is “No”. However, training is available to equip you to be a great Bible study discussion leader. Training Workshops are available online and in person across Canada.

How many students do I need to hold a class?

We refer to three or more people meeting together as a group. But there is nothing stopping you from doing an inductive Bible study one-on-one.

How many books should I order?

We recommend ordering about 20% more books than you have registrations. It can save you extra shipping costs for those last minute people. If you end up with too many books, our return policy allows you to send back extra books within 90 days as long as they have not been used or damaged.

I’m new at this and I’m not sure how to invite people.
