Have you seen the news lately? Bombs. Murder. Terror. In an unprecedented, well organized attack on American and German embassies, the loss of security and sovereignty represented by each embassy is a sign that the world is changing. Everywhere you turn it seems like there is bad news.
Have you personally received bad news lately? Perhaps:
- the doctor’s office called and the diagnosis is cancer.
- you had to file bankruptcy.
- you have lost your job or your home.
- your child or spouse is not walking with the Lord.
How do you respond in your particular set of circumstances?
It is easy to become fearful even paralyzed with fear, unable to pull away from the incessant news reports depicting violence around the globe. How are we to respond in these days of uncertainty?
We need to re-focus; take our eyes off the circumstances, put them on God and remember who He is and know His character. The prophet Daniel says, … the people who know their God will display strength and take action. – Daniel 11:32b
God does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can stop His hand nor can they say to Him, What have You done? (Daniel 4:34-35) God rules! Nothing happens by chance, nor does it escape His notice. We are not in the hands of fate, nor are we the victim of man’s whims or Satan’s ploys. There is One who rules over man, over Satan, and over the heavenly hosts as the ultimate authority of all the universe. That One is our God, and our Father! Our God is sovereign!
In order to truly understand who God is we must go directly to the Word and search out all we can about the sovereignty and character of God.
When we really KNOW God, His character and His sovereignty, all our concerns – our well-being, security, loved ones, needs, hopes, dreams and ambitions become insignificant. When you stand in the knowledge and the presence of the One far greater than man or angels or Satan, you will be enveloped in a security and peace that can’t be explained or understood. You will find your dwelling place.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!” For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings you may seek refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark. – Psalm 91:1-4
You will KNOW God like never before.
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.- Psalm 90:1-2
There are difficult days ahead for believers. It is imperative to begin preparations now!
The prophet Jeremiah says:
If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out, then how can you compete with horses? If you fall down in a land of peace, how will you do in the thicket of the Jordan? – Jeremiah 12:5
When the world, as you once knew it, changes around you how are you going to respond? Are you fearful in the time of peace? It is important for all Christians to begin preparing now for the difficult days that are looming on the horizon. Knowing God enables us as believers, to display strength in times of stress and to take action when the rest of the world seems to be immobile.
