Am I Living As A True Believer?
Reflection is such an important part in studying the Word. With it we can look back with more knowledge and new insights in order to add to what we’ve already learned. When we take some time to think and reflect, the Holy Spirit will help us apply the Word to our lives.
Today we get to look back at something so vital in our walk with God. We have an opportunity to see if we are falling under the characteristics of a true believer or not by revisiting 2 Timothy 1.
Two verses that stood out to me were verses six and seven: “For this reason I remind you to kindle afresh the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. For God has not given us a spirt of timidity, but of power and love and discipline.” At that time Timothy had Paul to share the Gospel with him. Today we are blessed enough to have all of God’s Word right at our fingertips.
First, as I think about that, I realise how privileged I am. As a believer in Christ, God has given me clear direction on how I am to live for Him. That’s true for every true Christian. His Word is our instruction manual for life! Second, we should feel burdened to share that treasure with others. As a true believer that is our responsibility and should be our desire.
Reflecting on this chapter and on how we can be living as true believers the answer is simple: share the Gospel. If we truly have a desire to serve God and obey His commands this should be an easy task in living for Him. It even says in verse seven that God has given us a spirit of power, and love, and discipline. We don’t have to be loud, brave, or totally out of our comfort zone because God has given us – and will give us – the courage and strength to share the truth.
So, to be a true believer we need to share the Gospel. Are we doing that? And are we looking to God to help us do that effectively and totally for Him? What can we do to continue to boldly share the Gospel? What new opportunities has God given you that you can use to share the Gospel with others?
