Dear Precept Family,
This morning I write to you with mixed emotions to inform you that on Friday, April 13th, our co-founder, Jane Hart went home to be with the Lord. For many years, Jane committed her life to establishing people in God’s Word through Precept Inductive Study. She taught us to view the world through a biblical lens and to write out key promises of God on cards to remember the greatness of God in difficult times. Over the past few days, I have continued to focus on those promises. Jane’s wisdom, humour and compassionate caring heart will be missed by everyone involved in this ministry. Jane had a prominent role in mentoring many of our staff members, leaders and students. This morning I was drawn to 2 Peter 1:12-15 and Peter’s example to ensure that truth was ingrained in a believer’s heart and mind before his departure. Peter wrote “And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things”. Peter’s desire was for the believers to remember their position in Jesus Christ. Much like Peter, Jane’s passion was God’s Word and making disciples. She continued to pursue this passion until the final days of her life. Jane continued mentoring women, served on the prayer team at church and lead her Wednesday Precept Bible study.
Ten years ago, Jane saw something in me that I didn’t see. She took me in and both Tom & Jane taught me how to study the Bible and bring it back to life. Jane once told me, “I’ll make you a great Bible Study Leader and Trainer”. She spent years pouring into my life from a ministry level and a personal level. She entrusted me with a ministry that started in her basement and blossomed into a national ministry. I am forever grateful for Jane who took a broken pastor and built me up and sent me out. Both Tom & Jane are living examples of 2 Timothy 2:2. I’ve lost a great mentor and friend.
I am confident that many of us involved in this ministry can share similar testimony to how Jane impacted their lives through training, weekly Bible study and personal friendships. We are going to miss Jane very much and heaven has gained a wonderful servant of the King.
On Saturday, I spent time with Tom and the family and would ask that you continue to pray for them as they grieve. Jane loved her family and was very proud of all her children and grandchildren.
Please be in prayer for:
- Jennifer & Ron Weed and their daughter, Sophie.
- Liz & Stephen Hinkle and their children, Titus and Elijah.
- Pat & Angie Hart and their children, Camille and Charlotte.
Please also pray for Jane’s sister, Jennifer & Gord Petersen and their family.
Finally, pray for the staff of Precept Ministries in Canada and several others that Tom & Jane have trained and discipled as staff over the years. The ministry baton is now much heavier.
A Celebration of Jane’s life will be held at Central Baptist Church, 300 Fairview Drive in Brantford, Ontario on Wednesday, April 18th at 11:00 am. Visitation will take place at 10:00 am with a reception after the service. Donations in Jane’s memory can be made to Precept Ministries Canada or Central Baptist Academy.
