Have you been paying attention to the news? In December the federal government added a sentence to the Canada Summer Jobs program that asks all those who apply for the grant to agree with the Liberal government’s agenda of abortion and the inclusion of the LGBQT2. If the applicant does not attest to this statement, they are not eligible to receive funds under this grant.

Since 2011 Precept Ministries has received funding from this grant program to fund our summer internship program. In 2011 through 2013, we had one student with us on staff for 9 weeks where he learned to study the Bible using the inductive method, how to disciple his peers, and gain valuable workplace skills that would serve him well as he headed into the workforce.

We’ve seen our interns go into the world and serve as pastors, attend Bible colleges, and serve in the local church. Taking 9 weeks to dig deep into God’s Word changes a student’s life. However, our summer internship program is in jeopardy for 2018.

Precept Ministries believes that the Bible is God’s truth for our lives. In the pages of the 66 books of the Bible, we learn how to live a life that prepares us for eternity. To go against the Word of God would be a disobedient act and God’s Word tells us how God views sin and disobedience.

My heart is grieved, not because Precept will not be approved for funding, but because of the rebellious acts of our federal government. This is an action of asking Christian groups to abandon truth for a lie to receive funding. This ministry will not abandon truth, and although we submitted our application, we made it clear that we will not support abortion or the LGBTQ2 agenda for financial gain.

We need your support in order to keep the internship program going. The intern program cost is $6,000 per student for 9 weeks of study and training and includes their training materials. Since 2014 we’ve had two students here in the office, and Lord willing will do the same again this year. We’re asking you to partner with us in raising $12,000 for our two students.

Precept Ministries is a part of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities and has sought counsel from CCCC, as well as the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada as they gather information to present to the federal government on this decision. Reach out to your Member of Parliament to voice your concern with the recent changes. For more information on how to speak to your MP, visit www.cccc.org or www.evangelicalfellowship.ca.

Our goal and desire is to continue to raise up students who are grounded in—and are prepared to establish people in—God’s Word. Would you prayerfully seek the Lord and ask how you can support the internship program?

Blessings,
Mark

I think there is value and integrity with God’s people supporting His work financially in this world and not taking money from the government. I am not legalistic about this and have felt that it has been right to use the government’s rules to steward our financial resources, but when there are conditions attached it demonstrates the “worldly” view Canada is increasingly adopting and of which we can have no part. I appreciate your stand.
