As I sought the Lord for 2018 plans, three words kept coming to mind: Equip, Empower, and Entrust.

EQUIP. The dictionary defines equip as “to furnish for service or action by appropriate provisioning, to make ready.” Jesus spent 3 years preparing and training the disciples, equipping them to go out with the gospel to all nations. Jesus’ prayer to God (John 17:6-8) reveals that the disciples have not only received the words from God, but understand and believe.

Precept equips people to discover the truth of God’s Word. We teach them how to study using the Precept Inductive Bible Study Method, so they’ll have a life-transforming interaction with Jesus Christ. We want people to learn the skills so they can study, and we also want to equip them to disciple others.

EMPOWER. The dictionary defines empower as “to give official authority or legal power; to enable.” Jesus tells the disciples they will “receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you shall be My witnesses…”(Acts 1:8). Paul raised up Timothy, saying about him, “For this reason I have sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, and he will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, just as I teach everywhere in every church”
(1 Corinthians 4:17).

Precept empowers people to confidently follow God’s leading in obedience to go and make disciples. When we equip and train in leadership, we create a foundation that is rooted in the power of the Holy Spirit—just like Jesus did in Acts 1, and after which the gospel took off across the globe.

ENTRUST. The dictionary defines entrust as “to charge or invest with a responsibility.” Do we have a responsibility? “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you…” (Matthew 28:19–20). Paul told Timothy, “These things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also” (2 Timothy 2:2). The message is equip those you minister to, and empower them or give them the authority to entrust the word of God to other faithful ones.

Precept entrusts this mission of discipleship and teaching to faithful disciples. Over the past 40 years, Precept Ministries has used a proven, simple method of making disciples: Equip believers to study and encounter God in the pages of Scripture, and the Holy Spirit empowers them to go out and share their faith with others.

Looking forward, the mission and vision remain the same. But as we focus on these 3 key goals of equip, empower, and entrust, we pray for a stronger partnership with the Precept family across Canada, working together as a team to further the kingdom of God in Canada.
